When to start orthodontic treatments?

According to the American Association of Orthodontics, it is recommended that orthodontic screening be performed as early as 6 to 8 years of age. When a problem is identified, it is imperative to address it quickly. With small interventions, often with removable appliances, an abnormal positioning of the teeth can be corrected, and can possibly avoid major treatments later. We are talking about interceptive orthodontics.

When jaw’s growth problems are observed, interventions are needed before the end of the peak of growth period, usually between 11 and 14 years (puberty). We are talking about dentofacial orthopedics.

Once growth is completed, a full alignment of teeth might be needed, which we call an orthodontic treatment.

It is never too late to start orthodontic treatment. In fact, there is no age limit to acquire aligned teeth. Adult orthodontics is now easier than ever, thanks to new technologies. With smaller, more comfortable and less visible appliances or clear aligners (Invisalign) and shorter treatment duration, you will be able to smile fully throughout the whole process.

With a thorough examination, we will determine the best time to start the treatment. We will also discuss its duration and costs, the techniques that suit you best and, of course, we will answer all your questions!
